I believe Charles Lloyd is using an older gold plated Conn New Wonder tenor in this video. I've heard his main mouthpiece is a Dukoff Hollywood model. I have a similar set up but in my hands it's essentially a really expensive duck caller. Charles is one of favorites for pure tone.

If you regard his movement in terms of a historical perspective, watch old videos of Lester Young. Remember, the movement is generated as a part of the music making process in this case, not to subvert it.

I saw Charles Lloyd with Cannonball in 1964, his movement did detract from his playing, which was straight out of Coltrane. Now he has his own style and sound and is completely unique.

Staggering. Re: Lloyd's 'movement' ... there is on youtube a Cannonball video of 'Work Song' with Lloyd ... check it .... amazing solo, and dancework worthy of Nureyev ... astounding ... it's like.... unbelieveable !
